What's a psychometric tests?

As organisations place more emphasis on cultural fit, psychometric assessments are becoming more common during the selection process.

Psychometric tests examine an individual’s capabilities and preferences, to provide data that can help assess a candidate’s “fit” for a role and organisation.

Psychometric tests might sound intimidating, but they are simply a standardised way of gathering information about you, the job applicant. The applicant’s responses are assessed by someone who’s trained in psychometric assessments, so that the employer can understand and contextualise your test results and compare it to others’ results.

If you have been asked to complete ability assessments, we strongly recommend you do some practice assessments. These can be found below and are similar to those you may have been asked to complete.

Numerical reasoning test

Numerical reasoning tests assess your knowledge of Ratios, Percentage Increase/Decrease, Cost and Sales Analysis, Rates and Trends, and Currency Conversions. To solve the problems you are usually allowed to use a calculator, but all other knowledge must come from your head!

Abstract 
Abstract    reasoning test
The abstract reasoning test is also called the conceptual reasoning test. It measures your lateral thinking skills or fluid intelligence, which are your ability to quickly identify patterns, logical rules and trends in new data, integrate this information, and apply it to solve problems.

The verbal reasoning test measures your ability to understand verbal information, think logically about written information, accurately draw logical conclusions, produce written reports, and convey information to others in a clear and simple manner.
